Cherry Orton Road
Renovation of a 17th Century Listed Cottage
2025 - Ongoing
West Port has designed a sympathetic renovation of a 17th-century Grade II listed thatched cottage in Orton Waterville, Peterborough. The project upgrades the family home by stripping modern render to reveal the original stone facade, restoring a Victorian outbuilding folly, and reinstating historic boundary timber posts and chains.
To improve circulation, the main entrance moves from the kitchen to a southern boot room wing features lowered flooring for better headroom, an under-stairs bar, and an open, double-height mezzanine office reached via a new spiral staircase. Outside, a dilapidated garage and shed will be replaced by a detached car port with a biodiversity-enhancing green roof and an EV charger.
Internally, the first floor will be reconfigured to include a master suite with a dedicated dressing room , a split bathroom to create an en-suite for Bedroom 3, and the removal of a later-addition raised floor platform, all unified by a naturalistic courtyard landscape.
