West Port Architects was established in 2016 by Colin Cheng, Khalifa Abubakar and Shaun Ihejetoh. The founders met in 2006 as students studying architecture in Edinburgh. They were drawn together by their shared values and belief in what good, well-thought out architecture and design can achieve.
Alongside good-design there is one other thing we strive for above most: opening up both the service and profession of architecture to many more people.
At West Port we believe that for architecture to truly help improve the quality of our built, social and natural environments it must broaden its audience and work harder to involve all members of society in its activities. It is therefore our endeavour to develop our practice in a direction that allows us to be approachable and accessible to more people. We hold that expending energy connecting architecture with the vast diversity of people it affects can only lead to the creation of more sustainable buildings and places.
We are as excited by new work as we are by outreach opportunities. In our goal to see more faces participating in shaping their homes, neighbourhoods and cities we are proactively involved in delivering drop-in workshops and Q&A sessions for interested members of the public. We also provide mentorship and short -term work experience opportunities for individuals.
In conjunction with our fully bespoke service we are developing our EASYMADE packaged architecture option. This new service aims to empower homeowners by providing greater clarity on the steps and costs involved on small projects, up front. EASYMADE is an attempt to make architecture more affordable and accessible. Its purpose is to deliver architectural value at critical stages on smaller home extensions and refurbishments, where budgets and time are tightest.
