West Port were commissioned to create a side and rear extension to a 1950’s ground floor flat set within the Mansfield Conservation area in Hampstead, north London. Designed for a growing family, the proposal saw a 15% increase in the building's footprint to contain an enlarged kitchen / living / dining space. A quirk of the project was an existing small courtyard space in the middle of the property. This was refurbished and better celebrated as part of the works. New roof-lights, patio doors and windows were also installed to the rear and courtyard areas.

Through careful design, good communication with Camden Council and prudent design principles, we were able to deliver a scheme that is sympathetic to the existing house yet stands confident as an understated piece of contemporary architecture.
