Planning Consented! Old Yard Gatehouse

January 9, 2022

Happy New Year everyone! We are excited to announce that our design for a residential gatehouse building in Kensal Green has been consented for planning by Brent Council. It is to be a new 3 bedroom end-of-terrace property that sits in line with the existing Victorian terraces on the street. Its dual purpose as a new family home and as an entrance to the larger Old Yard residential development to its rear has influenced its style, massing and materiality.

Our approach has kept to the rhythm of the existing streetscape while addressing the need to have a functioning vehicular and pedestrian route running underneath the building. This duality of being a home as well as a thoroughfare has been carefully considered. Both uses have been designed to sit in harmony with one another and be in keeping with the surrounding character.

Playful elements like the oriel bay, exaggerated banding and decorated tiling are touches of contemporary design that pick up on the characteristics of the neighbouring Victorian terraces and nod to the accents and windows of The Kensal Green Tabernacle that once sat adjacent to the site. A subtle material palette of brick, timber and ceramic tiles finish off the exterior.

Many thanks to the project team for their hard work on this. Now onto the next stages of the project, getting it built!
